A new local authority housing aimed at minimising
energy requirements was yesterday hailed as a prototype for future
housing development as well as providing invaluable training in
sustainable building techniques.
Johnston Reid & Associates were the Engineers for this housing
project in Co. Cork, which aims to bring best practice energy efficiency
standards to social and affordable housing, with 50-60% energy savings.
The design approach is sensitive to the rural context, and sets
out to engender a sense of community.
The aims of the project are to realise a demonstration housing project
that reflects the
contemporary debate on the building of low energy, cost effective
sustainable housing and also to provide a new solution to social
and affordable housing that is sustainable, engenders a sense of
community and is sensitive to context.
